INTRODUCTION

 
The year 1975 was considered the real start- off of the Scouts movement in the Sultanate  

In 1983, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said was inducted as the Chief Scout of the Sultanate of Oman. His Highness Sayyid Thuwainy Bin Shihab, the Personal representative to HM the Sultan and President of the National Organization for Scouts & Guides, vested His Majesty with the Scout Scarf.

FORMATION
Scouting commenced in the Sultanate in 1932 when the first Scout batch was instituted in the Sultani School at Muscat, and the Brownie Pack and Girl Guides in 1972 in Fatima Az-Zahra’ school at Muscat.

 

START-OFF
The year 1975 was considered the real start- off of the Scouts movement in the Sultanate, when His Majesty the Sultan issued the Royal Decree promulgating the law organising the Scouts movement on technical and scientific basis and the formation of the National Organization for Scouts & Guides under the auspices of His Majesty, thus, emphasising on the constructive role it plays towards the society and specifically towards the youth.

 

RECOGNITION.
1976 The Arab recognition of the Scouts.
1976 The Arab recognition of the Guides.
1977 The World recognition of the Scouts.
1996 The Guides became full member of the WAGGGS.

MAIN EVENTS
1984 The NOSG hosted the 16th Arab Scouts Conference in Muscat.
1986 The NOSG hosted the 17th Arab Scouts camp in the city of Salalah.
1990 A Long term strategic plan was set for the scout movement at the national level aimed at the promotion and development of all aspects of scouting.
